I am a man as well as a welding instructor here in San Diego so I am guessing i am in the minority around here. I have been building cakes for 10 years now I enjoy the challenge of building cakes that make people stop and say "that's a cake". Cakes are not my business and I do not make too many each year but I have learned quite a few techniques that have helped me create some of my best work. I have learned that you cannot skimp on the structure and my background in construction and welding has come in very handy for making strong subframes that do not get in the way of the cake.
Here is the latest creation, it was my daughters 4th grade mission project that we worked on together. we were originally going to make it out of cake but decided to go all chocolate instead. It has fondant roof tiles and brown sugar roads. It was about a three weeks build, working nights and weekends.
